How to Turn On Closed Captioning on TV Screens
1. For Smart TVs
Most modern Smart TVs come with built-in closed captioning features. Here’s how to activate it:
- Samsung TVs:
- Press the Menu button on your remote.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Select General, then go to Accessibility.
- Toggle Closed Captioning to On.
- LG TVs:
- Press the Settings button on your remote.
- Navigate to All Settings.
- Select Accessibility, then Closed Captions.
- Toggle Closed Captions to On.
- Sony TVs:
- Press the Home button on your remote.
- Go to Settings, then select Preferences.
- Scroll down to Accessibility Settings.
- Select Closed Captions and turn it On.
2. For Cable or Satellite Boxes
If your TVs are connected to a cable or satellite box, you’ll need to turn on closed captioning through the set-top box:
- Xfinity (Comcast):
- Press the Xfinity button on your remote.
- Use the arrows to select Settings (the gear icon).
- Select Accessibility Settings.
- Toggle Closed Captioning to On.
- Spectrum:
- Press the Menu button on your remote.
- Navigate to Settings, then Accessibility.
- Select Closed Captioning and turn it On.
- DirecTV:
- Press the Info button on your remote.
- Navigate to CC or Subtitles.
- Toggle Closed Captioning to On.
3. For Streaming Devices
If you use streaming devices such as Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, or Apple TV, you can enable closed captioning directly from those platforms:
- Roku:
- Press the Home button on your remote.
- Navigate to Settings, then Accessibility.
- Select Captions Mode and set it to Always On.
- Amazon Fire Stick:
- Go to the Home screen and select Settings.
- Choose Accessibility, then Closed Captions.
- Toggle Closed Captions to On.
- Apple TV:
- Go to Settings, then select Accessibility.
- Choose Subtitles and Captioning.
- Turn on Closed Captions.
4. For Traditional TVs (without built-in CC settings)
If your TVs are older models without built-in closed captioning controls, you may need to enable CC through the remote control of your external devices, such as a DVD player, Blu-ray player, or cable box. Simply look for the CC button on the remote and press it to activate closed captions.
