People
Hamilton County is one of the fastest-growing communities in Indiana and the Midwest. Located on land once home to the Lenape people, it is now home to almost 375,000 people from all across the nation and world and is among the 12 counties in Indiana seeing rapid minority growth.
Fact: Hamilton County’s community culture – whether rooted in its agricultural and industrial heritage, or based on population growth that has increased its diversity – should be celebrated. Its faith-based culture is rich with diversity, ranging from more than 175 congregations of various Christian beliefs to synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship. The community’s rich cultural diversity is reflected in these voices through art, food ways and lifestyles.
Hamilton County Tourism will reflect all voices in the community in its marketing, communications and storytelling and will invest resources in supporting programs that share these diverse experiences through public programs and exhibitions.
Fact: More than 5% of Hamilton County’s population under the age of 65 lives with some kind of disability. Nationally, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics estimates that 18.6 million Americans had self-reported travel-limiting disabilities. Travel should be available to all individuals.
Hamilton County Tourism will increase efforts to provide meaningful information to inform travelers with disabilities, support education for partners to enable them to better serve those with disabilities, provide grants to improve access to travel for differently abled guests, and seek opportunities to host adaptive sports at the county’s outstanding venues.
